At age 35 was pounding metal on metal and sustained an intraocular foreign body. He underwent an immediate lensectomy and vitrectomy. Five years later he presented with an intraocular pressure of 60 mmHg. His iris had turned brown. No metal could be detected on X-ray but the ERG was unrecordable. Seven years later (12 years after the injury) he was found to have a brown foreign body in the anterior chamber that was presumed to be retained lens material discolored by iron.
